I see that it has been a while since anyone posted a note so I thought I’d break the silence … not that I have much to report.
For some mad reason, I decided to run a trap most nights this week, despite the full moon, clear skies (except for super-moon night) and cool temps. The rewards have been scant but do include Mallow, Red-green Carpet, Burnished Brass, Barred Sallow, Beaded Chestnut and Brown-spot Pinion. Last night delivered my first Merveille du Jour of the year, looking as fresh as a helping of ‘mint-choc’ ice-cream. Even my work colleagues were suitably impressed
Thanks for the post Paul. Yes I was thinking the same. I don’t have much to report either. No Merveille for me yet and I don’t get many nor any Red-green Carpet. Have the Sallow, Yellow-line Quaker, Brindled Green and Lunar Underwing. Also some probably more local to us on the Sandlings and near the coast: Black Rustic (one of my favourite moths), L-album Wainscot, Feathered Ranunculus and Feathered Brindle. Picked up a couple of Calybites phasianipennella too and only had one before. Some atlantic weather as next week progresses. Should remove the moon but not so good if it gets windy.
