Struggling for moths

I set my alarm for five today to beat the rain and keep the Robins off the catch and wished I hadn’t bothered, a measly 10 moths of 8 species – town centre mothing can be tough at times. Interest was provided though by this Garden Carpet ab. costovata which is the first time I have encountered it. Again, I’m wondering how often this has been picked up in the county.

Yes, it is a struggle at the moment with this persistent, cold NE wind. The first three nights in May have given me totals of 7/6, 7/6 and 8/5 – all to MV (the only moths in the trap this morning were three E. postvittana!!)
I cannot recall ever having seen that form of Garden Carpet – it would have been a highlight for me too!

9sp 10 moths for me in one 125w trap in suburban Ipswich, so it’s no better further out of town! Only night I’ve tried this May so far as it has been so cold.
Never seen that form either, so a nice catch.

Thanks guys, I’m glad I’m not the only one in town with low catches. I’ve founded a sheltered spot for the trap tonight but I don’t think I’ll bother getting up too early!
By way of comparison, I’m also using a 125w mv light, in a Skinner trap.
