A conching we will go …

Some micro’s are just better than others and Commophila aeneana (the Orange Conch) ranks highly on my list of personal favourites. This one was swept from its foodplant, ragwort, a couple of days ago at a local SWT Nature Reserve.

Back at the ranch, still no Striped Hawk or Bordered Straw to report on but who can complain when you add species no. 603 to the garden list, the equally stunning …not … Platytes cerussella.

Well done Paul on an absolutely stunning photograph – really does a beautiful moth justice.

Thank-you. Am really pleased with the result too. Taken with a Coolpix 4500 that replaced my trusty old 995. A fresh specimen; that co-operated for once, and a bit of foodplant held at the right height with a bulldog clip did the rest :-)

Yes another beautiful moth. I seem to have a few P cerussella this year too and only picked up one before at home. Not so stunning but quite pretty is you catch the light on the two metallic stria.
