Any views please on the identification of this tortrix which I believe is Spilonota laricana.

89 species recorded at this vast site. An area I haven’t trapped before. The moth shown was taken in a trap by Sitka Spruce. There is Larch close by. Other moths included Pseudoswammerdamia combinella and my first Pine Hawk-moth of the season.

  1. Raymond Watson says:

Unfortunately any Spilonota I have believed to be laricana have turned out to be ocellana upon dissection. So be wary without dissection.

  2. Neil says:

I would agree with Raymond, it could be laricana but without dissection it cannot be certain, especially as it is a new record for the site. One to keep Keith.

  3. jonc says:

Wings seem too broad for laricana. I’d suggest occelana.
