Equinoctial noctuids

Trap on last night for first time in ten days. Generally as expected.. Dominants were lunar underwing, large yellow underwing and setaceous hebrew character (far fewer square-spot rustic). Firsts for the autumn were dusky lemon sallow, large ranunculus, brindled green and black rustic. No migrants at all.

Nothing among my ivy last night except a lesser whitethroat.

I ran the garden trap again last night and caught a Black Rustic along with the first Brick and Blair’s Shoulder-knot of the year.

Black rustic seems to be very reliable in its appearance here. I get about six most years, and first dates are always within a week of now. First beaded chestnut and brown-spot pinion last night.

Black Rustic first showed up here around 2009. Best nights catch 6 but averaging 4 a night right now.
