New trap catches its first moths.

I recently decided to buy one of Jon Clifton’s excellent ALS twin 30w actinic Robinson traps after others reported good catches from them. Tried it in the garden for the first time last night and caught 9sp, 19moths so not bad for the time of year. Nothing to spectacular seen, just the usual suspects like Red-line and Yellow-line quakers and Red-green carpet (seems to be doing well this year).

I would be interested in how you find your catches differ from say those in an MV Robinson. I find it tends to favour the larger moths but the species make-up differs. The feeling that it gets the rarer ones may be down to the siting though. Micros also can escape through the gaps but it doesn’t seem to attract them to start with. I am going to make a 40w actinic with Robinson type vanes to see if I can get more of the smaller moths next year.
