A few bright sparks amongst the gloom.

2 traps out last night in Oak woodland basically full of two species this morning – Tortrix viridana (150) and Brown rustic (10). 46sp in total, with a few nicer moths amongst the common species – Epinotia demarniana, Spatalistis bifasciana (3rd site record) and Lunar yellow underwing. Traps put away just before the rain started to fall again.

A bit of a wet and windy night in Woolpit too. Still, the trap pulled in 18 moths / 12 species. Pick of the mediocre bunch was a Pine Hawkmoth (only the 8th time I’ve recorded this moth here). Of the rest, Double Square-spot and Large Yellow Underwing were my first of the year.
