News from Woolpit

A small but steady stream of autumnal moths here during the past week but nothing out of the ordinary. After a run of Large Wainscot’s, there were none in the trap last night but I did catch my first Merveille du Jour and Yellow-line Quaker of the year, together with the 2nd Pink-barred Sallow for garden. The plume acanthadactyla trapped a few nights ago.

I had a couple of first for year with Merveille du Jour and Black Rustic on Sunday night. Lunar Underwings, which are normally a common moth with me, are low on the ground.

I would agree with Tony – Lunar underwing is in very low numbers this year, normally my commonest moth at this time of the season. Square spot rustic has been in poor numbers too. My theory is that there was no grass for them to eat during the dry warm spring we had.
