I note that there has been a post of what appears to be a White-mantled Wainscot caught in Somerset. Posted on the Migrant Moths Facebook site early on the morning of 18th. Does the species occur as an immigrant or perhaps the Somerset environment could be another location for this species.

I’ve seen this photo Raymond and could possibly be neurica especially as the recorder notes that there are no spots on the underside of the wings. I have replied about the fact neurica has a skinny abdomen too as another feature to check but the photos don’t show this. Moth has been retained so hopefully will get to the bottom of the id.
Not heard of it being a migrant species, although it must make some local movements as it has been spreading in Suffolk. It could occur in Somerset as there is a lot of reedbed down there around the levels area. Will be an interesting record if confirmed.
I’ve seen all the comments now Neil. Looks to be good for neurica. So Suffolk no longer the only centre for the species. I’ve had a couple recently so they seem to be doing well in Suffolk this year. Though that can be said for many species this year.
It is also doing well here in Norfolk Raymond. I recorded 6 here on 13th of this month at the regular site and found a new site for it on the 9th.
