Local Status : Resident (SMP Status 3)

Distribution and abundance : Local

Habitats : Rough grassland, woodland rides, commons, waste ground

Flight Period : Single-brooded; June to July

Larval foodplants : Meadow-vetchling (Lathyrus pratensis), Red Clover (Trifolium pratense), Sanfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia), bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus)

Comments : Would appear to be more widespread and common than the Five-spot Burnet (Zygaena trifolii)

Morley's Final Catalogue : Distinctly rare; unnoticed since 1890, Foxhall Heath (Ml), where it is certainly extinct; Beccles (Crf) and, in the west, at Tuddenham (J. H. A. Jenner), where innumerable collectors have worked recently.

Wingspan details : Forewing 15-19mm, Wingspan 30-46mm
