I found a female of this moth floating in a bucket of water outside my house this afternoon – I’ve rescued it as it was still alive. First time I’ve seen it here since 2006. A search of the garden around clumps of Black horehound proved fruitless however, no more found.

I had a report of this BAP species from Rob Garrod this week. It was along the Gipping River in Ipswich on Tuesday 14 June. I went along and had a look at the site on a sunny lunchtime but failed to see any adults flying or at rest on the vegetation. I’d have tried sweeping the Black Horehound to see if that had any better success but I’d left the net in the car. It will have to wait for another day.

It would be worth checking clumps of Black Horehound for this moth in the next few weeks. Let me know if you have any success.
